Blackbird Farm of Coopersville
This week at market, we are offering again our pre-selected, pre-packed bags of fresh vegetables. These bags are something akin to our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) shares. We assemble bags of our highest quality veggies based on whatever is fresh and in season for that week. In the bag, we aim to have some combination and quantity of at least six different vegetables with a combined value around $20. We also include a brief note from Farmer Greg and a farm-tested recipe. Each bag costs $15.

This week’s bag will likely contain some combination of the following: kale, cabbage, beets, carrots, potatoes, leeks, and garlic. Again, each bag will cost $15.
To order your Blackbird Farms Veggie Bag, please email us at hello.blackbirdfarms@gmail.com by noon on Thursday. We will then send you an invoice via Square. Payment can also be made via cash or check (payable to Blackbird Farms).
We will also be offering our family heirloom garlic for pre-ordered bulk sales at $12 a pound (three-pound minimum order).
In addition, we have grade-A seed garlic available for pre-order at $15 a pound.
We also plan to have many other items for walk-up sales—watch for more information in Friday’s newsletter.

The Pasturage LLC of Montague
Julie Engel owns and operates The Pasturage, LLC. Our pigs and sheep range on 40 acres in Montague, MI.  The pigs eat certified organic grain (75% corn, 25% soy), are born on the farm, primarily roam in the woods, and get hay and baleage in the winter.  The sheep are 100% grass-fed, are moved daily to a new paddock in the summer, and are also born on the farm.
Highlight of the week: Lamb chops!  There are two different cuts of lamb chops, rib chops and loin chops.  As far as cooking goes, they are nearly identical.  The only difference you’ll notice is that the loin chop is slightly larger so you’ll cook it a touch longer.  They are both perfectly portioned protein that defrost fast, cook quickly, taste delicious, and lend themselves to pretty much any cooking style.

2. Vendors will respond back by no later than Friday before market day with an order confirmation and an invoice that in most cases will allow you to pre-pay for your order. If a vendor is not set up to take payment online they will accept checks (preferred) or cash in a sealed envelope on market day pickup.

Blackbird Farms of Coopersville
This week at market, we are offering again our pre-selected, pre-packed bags of fresh vegetables. These bags are something akin to our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) shares. We assemble bags of our highest quality veggies based on whatever is fresh and in season for that week. In the bag, we aim to have some combination and quantity of at least six different vegetables with a combined value around $20. We also include a brief note from Farmer Greg and a farm-tested recipe. Each bag costs $15.
This week’s bag will likely contain some combination of the following: head lettuce, arugula, Brussels sprouts, Napa cabbage, leeks, pie pumpkin, garlic, and microgreens. Again, each bag will cost $15. (Please note that due to the variability of the weather this time of year, the contents of the bag might be a little more in flux than in other seasons. I will try to hew as close to this list as I can, but substitutions may occur.)
This week we also will have a variety of vegetables available for pre-order:
kale (red curly, green curly, and lacinato): 1 pound for $4
collard greens: 1 pound for $4
arugula: 1/4 pound bag for $3
baby kale: 1/4 pound bag for $3
full-size cabbages (conical, savoyed, and Napa): $4 each
Brussels sprouts: $4 per stalk
leeks: 1 pound for $3
Anna Barbara’s Ohio Red garlic: $15 per pound (1/2 pound minimum order) ***Very limited quantities.*** This garlic is suitable for use as seed garlic.
Music garlic: Ideally, we will have more available next week.
And new this week:
–FRESH GINGER: $20 per pound (1/4 pound minimum). Please note that ginger rhizomes are irregularly sized and so may not weigh out to exactly what you ordered. We will try to get as close as we can.
To order, please e-mail us at hello.blackbirdfarms@gmail.com by noon on Friday. We will then send you an invoice via Square. Payment can also be made via cash or check (payable to Blackbird Farms).
Thanks so much! We are looking forward to seeing friends old and new this Saturday!

Farmer Dave’s Produce of Hesperia
(formerly with Summer Blend Gardens)
A few years back Farmer Dave’s doctor told him more fresh veggies in his diet would be good. Sixty plus years of farming and 20 plus years of compost experience went to work and became Farmer Dave’s Produce. Dave and Candy set forth a little over a year ago to build a massive year round greenhouse, added just the right nutrient & mineral rich soil, and with the right temps, sunshine and Gods blessing are now growing veggies for sale at the market. Our partner Marty of Summer Blend brought our veggies early in the spring, now we will come in the fall & winter! We will have large, red, fresh tomatoes again for Saturday!

*Maybe* limited duck eggs. Our poultry are all free range and are consuming more of Grice’s certified organic feed as the days grow short and vegetation and bugs are less plentiful.
We’ll have a nice selection of honey. Due to the drought this summer and fewer flowers our prices have increased slightly. We had a small harvest. Our bees winter right in Michigan and require 80# of honey per colony for themselves each winter. We are careful to only take surplus.
Bill and I will be taking turns at market Saturday. While he is there he can run credit. I anticipate he will be there Saturdays from now until spring.
Thanks,
Sarah
