Coming up August 10th: Kid’s Day at the Market!
Plan to bring the kiddos to this fun-filled market day! We will have a Bee Booth where kids can listen to a sweet story about Bea’s Bees & collect $2.00 in market bucks to spend! A Make Your Own Market Bag booth, a Make a Kid Approved Veggie Dip booth along with demos from our youngest entrepreneur Liam of Grandson’s Gardens on how he makes his hats & scrubbies – plus music, treats & much more!

Update on Organic Blueberries! The bad news is organic blueberries are having a hard time this year. They are late arriving because the early cold weather meant late or no pollination when needed. The good news is Organic Blueberries of West Olive will be starting their U-Pick season this Monday, July 22nd,  and we will have some of their berries available for sale at Sweetwater on Saturday, July 27th! They are Bluecrop & Rubles. The hours of their U-Pick operation are Mon – Fri 9-5:30 and Saturday until noon. Address is 6332 152nd St, West Olive, MI 49460. They are in their 3rd year of transition to organic and will be certified organic by next season.

Attending this week’s market:

Shady Side Farm of Holland
*We accept debit/credit cards!

Black Turtle – Common black bean, great in Mexican dishes (not an heirloom)
Hidatsa Red  – Slight nutty taste, good for soup/chili or red beans & rice (almost gone)
Painted Lady – Slightly sweet bean, smooth, creamy texture, good all-purpose bean
Pinto – Earthy flavor, great in Mexican cooking, fall apart under long cooking (not an heirloom)
Spanish Tolosana – Rich & creamy, hold shape well, good for chili, bean salads
Tiger Eye  – Creamy smooth texture, rich flavor, tender skin, good all-purpose bean (almost gone)

Yellow Indian Woman  – Mild, creamy tasting, sturdy, salads or chili (almost gone)
Zebra  – Smooth, creamy texture, full-bodied flavor, good all-purpose bean
As you can see, we are almost out of many varieties, so if you have favorites that are marked “almost gone”, you might want to make sure you get some this Saturday. Harvest is usually in late September and October.
We will also have corn meal and grits along to market. And we’ll have lamb bones along for making your own bone broth.
Also, if you can’t make it to the market this Saturday and feel like a road trip you can stop by our Farm Store Weds & Fridays from 1:00 to 4:00! We’ll have our certified organic beef, lamb polenta & dry beans as well as our rugs and knitted goods.
