Kasza Sugar Bush of Shelby

CHRISTMAS IS COMING!!! Come get the perfect, all-natural gift from our large selection of super-sweet Maple Products for that special someone.

The Kasza family began making Pure Maple Syrup from the two trees in our front yard about 15 years ago. Every year since then we have grown in production and quality, today bringing you pure maple products made from cutting-edge technology (and the help of 3,500 trees!). Our maple syrup is continually graded for color, taste, and quality during production. Our processing facility is kept clean and sanitary as well as inspected and licensed by the State of Michigan.

Along with our bottled syrup, we have also expanded our line of maple products this summer to include the following:

Maple Cream – this is maple syrup condensed, cooled, and stirred into a beautiful buttery-like spread excellent on bagels, toast, doughnuts, winter squash, or a glaze on meat (esp. fish, and venison). The best thing about this is that it is totally natural only pure maple syrup.

Maple Candy – an excellent treat for someone’s sweet tooth. Simply pure maple syrup cooked down to only sugar and minerals remaining with enough moisture to hold the sugar in beautiful little maple leaf shaped candies.

Maple Granulated Sugar – is much like Maple Candy but without moisture. This can be used in place of white sugar as a natural sweetener along with the maple taste (esp. on oatmeal)

Maple Sugar-Coated Almonds and Pecans – a healthy sweet and crunchy treat.  These make great gifts if they don’t get eaten before that!!!

Please stop by and check out all these 100% natural products for yourself. We would be very happy to answer any questions or visit our web www.kaszasugarbush.com Looking forward to seeing you Saturday!

Kasza Sugar Bush of Shelby

Come sample our latest batch!

Plain Chevreʹ

Fresh chevre with a nice spreading consistency, perfect for sandwich toppings and cooking. Cherry Capital Foods of Traverse City says  ” The chèvre produced by Meadow View has a pitch perfect acidity on the palate that becomes gently sweet and milky with a grassy note on the finish.”

Seasoned Chevreʹ

Our fresh Chevre available in your favorite flavorings: Blueberry Vanilla (great on a morning bagel!) Hickory-smoked bacon Bits, Garlic, Italian Herb, & Hot Pepper

Feta

A smooth and creamy feta which is low in salt and rich in fresh goat milk flavor. The brining process gives feta cheese a salty, tangy flavor and a crumbly consistency. Feta cheese can be served as a table cheese, used in baking savory dishes, or served as an appetizer or in salads. The classic Greek salad is made with Feta cheese. In crumbles or cubes for easy slicing.

Dutch Kase

A Meadow View Dairy original! If you are looking for a nicely aged but milder version of our Tomme, this is the cheese for you. Vacuum sealed without mold and aged at least 60 days.

Tomme de Fremont

Our first aged cheese is quickly becoming a customer favorite! Developed from a French recipe, Tomme is a lower fat mold ripened cheese, aged at least 60 days. This gives the cheese a stronger flavor & firmer texture than the fresh Chevres, perfect for slicing.

NEW BEANS! The exciting news we have this week is that we’ve harvested two new types of beans. We’ll have Hidatsa Red and Zebra beans along for sale this Saturday. Hidatsu is a small red bean similar to a kidney originally grown by the Native American Hidatsa tribe in the Missouri River Valley of North Dakota.   The Zebra Bean is as strikingly patterned as you can imagine. It probably originated in Mexico, therefore it can be used in any recipe where Mexican pinto beans are called for. It also makes a delicious bean paste. And since a strain of this bean was discovered in Ethiopia in the early 1840s, it can also be used in East African recipes with perfect authenticity.

Because we have started to harvest the new crop, many of last year’s beans are now discounted. Time to make room in our storehouse for this year’s beans. These are still wonderful beans, still fresher than what you’d find in the stores. Stop at our booth to see if there is anything you’d like to stock up on while the price is right.

Kasza Sugar Bush of Shelby

Friends of the Market

The Friends of the Market Program is in the process of being redesigned. We will need many helping hands to assist us in sustaining and growing this invaluable resource.  We do not know of another Farmer’s Market like Sweetwater in the state — one focused on organically produced, local products.  The mission of the Friends of the Market will be to promote growth and sustainability. We will be rolling out the details of the program in the next several weeks.  Those who wish to participate will be asked to help by donating time, talent and/or financial support. Whether you have been involved in the past or are new to the market we would love to have you join us.  Please contact the Friends of the Market committee at email –  Sweetwaterfriends@yahoo.com if you are interested in helping.   Provide your contact information and we will follow-up with you.  Thanks!

Herbal Salves-Let your medicine be local too!

We infuse wild-harvested herbs that grow naturally on our land, as well as some great medicinal plants we grow in the garden, in high quality organic oil for great herbal medicine.

New this week-

Allium Ear Oil our ear oil still uses the power of  fresh mullein flowers and garlic, but this year we added another allium, onions.  We find this works wonders on bacterial infections that can easily make their way into young growing ears.  Works on ears of all ages.  We also blend in St.John’s Wort to address the pain that can occur with ear infections.

Mama’s All Purpose-A great general purpose salve that can help everything from bug bites to bumps to burns to diaper rash.  Contains calendula, comfrey leaf and root, violet leaf, plantain, chickweed, cleavers, and now with St. John’s Wort!

Mike’s Muscle Relaxer– Mike needed something stronger this year, so we added the power of western plain grown arnica.  Also contains dandelion flowers, rosemary, and st.john’s wort.  The perfect remedy for tired, over-worked muscles.

Andi-Anxiety-Named for our friend Andy, a gentle balm that helps promote relaxation.  Contains lemon balm, rose petals, oat tops, lavender, chamomile, catnips flowers, and borage flowers.

Rob’s Relief– Our original salve.  Nature’s remedy for poison ivy.  A must for anyone who wanders MI woods.  Contains jewelweed and burdock leaf.

(We make no medical claims, these preparations simply work for our family and many others.  We wish you heath, happiness, and wholeness)

We’ll have our normal spread of herbal teas; Nourish, Peace, and Restore.

Thanks!

New Vendor!

Kasza Sugar Bush of Shelby

The Kasza family began making Pure Maple Syrup from the two trees in our front yard about 15 years ago. Every year since then we have grown in production and quality, today bringing you pure maple products made from cutting-edge technology. We now harvest from over 3,500 trees producing over 2,000 gallon of Pure Maple Syrup.

The Kasza brothers, Samuel and Philip, now own and operate this “sweet business”, with the exception during the busy harvest season when the rest of the family pitch in.

We begin in early February by tapping the trees, gathering sap each time there is a warm, sunny day. We always process the sap into syrup as soon as we can to provide the highest quality and taste. During March we usually get the big flows requiring us to run day and night for a couple of days, our motto is “When the sap runs, we run!” Our maple syrup is continually graded for color, taste, and quality during production. Our processing facility is kept clean and sanitary as well as inspected and licensed by the State of Michigan.

We have also expanded our line of maple products this summer to include the following:

Hickory Ridge Family Farm of Hesperia

CHICKEN! We will return to the market this weekend with fresh chicken! If you submitted a Freedom Ranger pre-order form and have not yet received your chickens, please stop by on Saturday to pick up your order – we can’t wait for you to try our birds this year! If you haven’t already ordered a chicken, we will have plenty of fresh chicken available and would love to introduce you to our delicious, pastured Freedom Rangers. Freedom Rangers were developed in France from traditional, heritage-breed chickens to meet the highest standards of the French “Label Rouge Free Range Program.” Unlike the conventional cornish-cross chickens that we usually raise on pasture, Freedom Rangers need no encouragement to graze and will forage for 30% or more of their diet, resulting in a very happy, healthy, and tasty 4-6 lb chicken. We will have whole, fresh-never-frozen Freedom Rangers available at market and would love to talk to you about these delightful and delicious chickens.

We will also have limited quantities of whole frozen chickens and frozen chicken wings for sale. If you would like to pre-order one of our delicious cornish-cross pastured chickens for late September/early October, we will have order forms available. We look forward to seeing you soon!
