Friday Update Newsletter
Along with “A Call To Farms” by Woody Tasch, there is an equally compelling read to be had in “Regeneration-Ending the Climate Crisis in One Generation” by Paul Hawken. Snip: “Do you feel stressed about climate change? Stress is your brain telling you to act. Stress is a signal; it is urging you to do something. Not only do actions change your beliefs, your actions change other people’s beliefs. When honey bee scouts find a bounty of blooms and nectar, they return to the hive, where they do a symbolic waggle dance at the entrance of the hive. The dance signals the precise direction and distance to the flowering plants or trees. Once worker bees have seen the dance, they have the necessary information and fly straight to the source. It is time for humanity to create waggle dances unique to their knowledge, place, and determination. Another way to look at this time in history is this: we are being homeschooled by the planet, our teacher.”
What are you reading that is compelling you to act? Email us at sweetwaterlocalfoods@gmail.com and we’ll share it here!

Addy has updated her list for tomorrow, and remember there’s still time to get those preorders in for everyone else attending Saturday April 16th!

The Pasturage LLC of Montague
Happy Easter!  Hallelujah, we saw the sun this past weekend!  Keep in mind that we have leg of lamb (bone-in and boneless), lamb sirloin roast (for a small crowd), pork loin roast, fresh ham, pork shoulder roast, and pork butt roast available for your Easter celebration.  We sold out of the nitrate-free whole hams.  We also have no nitrate bacon, no nitrate jowl bacon (aka guanciale), fresh side pork, pork liver, spare ribs, no nitrate ham slices and sugar-free polish sausage now in stock.  My Mom said “Wow! That polish sausage tastes just like I remember it as a kid!” A perfect Easter accompaniment to hard-boiled eggs and coffee cake for breakfast (that’s what I grew up eating every Easter morning).  Enjoy!

Monday Preorder Newsletter
Happy Easter!
This essay “A Call to Farms – Some Thoughts on Food, Money and Nonviolence In Honor of Wendell Berry” by Woody Tasch I read last week seems so right for this moment I have to pass the link on. https://beetcoin.org/blog/a-call-to-farms?goal=0_e9ca84a3ec-1ad24540f7-83841967&mc_cid=1ad24540f7&mc_eid=18594aeaed
A snip: “The question before us, then, is not only how we will mobilize to redress the immediate harm done by militarism. The question is also how we will plant the seeds of a peaceable economy. There is no better place to start than with how we grow food, how we feed ourselves and one another, how we relate to and care for the land.
Let us nurture a great awakening of local conscientiousness, a great coming together in communities and watersheds and foodsheds around the world, so that what Slow Food’s Carlo Petrini calls “virtuous globalization” can sink deep, perennial roots into a complementary process of virtuous localization.
Let us imagine, and then march forthrightly in the direction of, with a kind of affection and gumption for the ages, the vision of millions of individuals in thousands of communities around the world, bringing money back down to earth, in the name of health and peace.”

Laughing Tree Bakery needs your preorders by Tuesday 6PM. Be sure to get an order in for NOVA Bakery’s last appearance at Sweetwater before her new Chalet opens – she needs orders by Wednesday the 13th.
Enjoy!

The Pasturage LLC of Montague
What we call pork loin roast here at The Pasturage goes by many different names. Some call it a pork rib rack, similar to a rack of lamb.  Some call it a rib roast, similar to a standing rib roast of beef. Some call it the prime rib of pork. Whatever you call it, it is a little known and extremely underappreciated cut of pork. Those that are in on the secret rave about it. Look it up! Try it for Easter instead of ham! You won’t be disappointed!

Sweetwater Friday Update for Saturday April 2nd Farmers Market

Sweetwater Local Foods Market
Saturday, April 2nd, 2022
10:00am to 11:00am
Mercy Health Lakes Village
6401 Harvey St. at US31/Pontaluna Rd.
Friday Update Newsletter
There’s still plenty of time to get a preorder in, particularly your meat purchases. In these times of high fuel prices every presale helps our small local organic farmers stay in business, by having meat presold, rather than lugging heavy freezers of meat down to market and hoping it sells. Thanks for your preorders!

The Pasturage may have some new pork products available, see her listing for more info. Earthscape has a sale on beef bones for broth (great broth ideas in  NY Times bestselling Bone Broth Diet by Kellyann Petrucci, MS, ND). And Forest Finds has FIVE new products to offer, including Tallow Balm & Turmeric Honey (great with milk in chai tea!).

Winter just doesn’t want to quit! However, I am thankful it is now that we receive this cold blow rather than after the trees have budded, and the tender shoots come up.
Tomorrow (if all goes well today) we will have new pork: Polish sausage that is sugar and dextrose free, nitrate free bacon, nitrate free smoked hocks, and nitrate free smoked jowl (aka jowl bacon). No prices are listed here because I haven’t picked them up yet and I need to see the invoice first (and make sure we actually get what we ordered). Just a heads up for you fine folk!

Friday Update Newsletter!
Important note: I’m hoping it’s the nice weather that has kept you all from getting preorders placed and that you will consider reading the list below and getting those orders placed by end of today. Several vendors have reported that they may not be able to attend Saturday because of low to no orders.
You all know what this market represents, and in order for us to continue we need your continued support.
In spite of the inflated prices for fuel and groceries at the major stores our farmers have kept their prices down, keeping you in mind. We hope you will reward their hard work with orders – today!

Thanks from all of us at Sweetwater.

The Pasturage LLC of Montague
We are sold out of the pork whole shoulder roast but we have several half shoulder roasts available and I figure y’all are smart folk and can put two and two together!  Also, don’t forget that the butt roast is also from the shoulder and is typically used for pulled pork.  We have several whole butt roasts left.  We also have bone-in loin roasts, which have been called the “prime rib of pork” by chefs.  Keep that in mind as Easter approaches.  Finally, don’t forget the fresh ham.  Watching what you eat?  This is the perfect answer.  It’s pure pork without the pesky preservatives (no salt, no nitrates, all flavor).
