Blackbird Farm of Coopersville
We are looking forward to seeing you again at this Saturday’s market with all manner of good things to eat!
This week we are again offering for pre-order our pre-selected, pre-packed bags of fresh vegetables. These bags are something akin to our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) shares. We assemble bags of our highest quality veggies based on whatever is fresh and in season for that week. In the bag, we aim to have some combination and quantity of at least five different vegetables with a combined value around $25. We also include a brief note from Farmer Greg and a farm-tested recipe. Each bag costs $20. This week’s bag will potentially contain a selection of some of the following: lettuce, mini-cabbages, carrots, scallions, herbs, green peppers, summer squash, zucchini, and tomatoes. To order your Blackbird Farms Veggie Bag, please email us at hello.blackbirdfarms@gmail.com by noon on Thursday. We will then send you an invoice via Square. Payment can also be made via cash or check (payable to Blackbird Farms).
In addition, this season we are experimenting with offering four-week-long trial shares for folks who are curious about the CSA model but not quite ready to commit to a full season. These will be offered in four different four-week sessions (basically the months of August, September, and October), with pick-up on the farm on Thursday evenings. Trial shares will be offered as either full shares ($140) or small shares ($75). The sign-up form is available online.
We also plan to have many items for walk-up sales–watch for more information in Friday’s newsletter.
Thanks so much! We’re looking forward to seeing friends old and new this Saturday!

The Pasturage of Montague
Good day, fair market friends! Have you ever seen a green heron? Dan and I have enjoyed their presence near our pond for the last several years. Last Friday, a red tailed hawk intruded on “our” green heron’s space. It made me wary for our turkeys when they emerge from the protection of the brooder in a couple of weeks. They’ll be rotated on pasture with our sheep. I best get moving on their mobile pasture roost! As always, our pre-order form is the best way to see what we have and get what you want!  Find it here:  https://form.jotform.com/231266729632056 or you can always call/text 231 288 6112 or email thepasturage@gmail.com

This week’s bag will likely contain a combination of some of the following: lettuce, kale, mini-cabbages, radishes, scallions, herbs, summer squash, and zucchini.
Funny Farm of Grant
The garden is certainly growing well this year, not too many hiccups so
far… In the next few weeks we’ll have lots of new items for sale.
Included will be compact cabbage, great for small families. Later we’ll
have large ones, great for kraut and lots of broccoli, kohlrabis,
cauliflower, Chinese cabbage, onions, scallions, okra, peppers, winter
squash and some surprises, too. Tomatoes are doing well also and I’ll
have those orange cherry and new snacking cherry tomatoes in lots of
colors and flavors, and slicers and colors for eating out of hand. So
that’s what’s ahead for the season. I’ll update on Friday what I’ll have
for market on Saturday. As always, please text me by 6pm if there’s
anything you’d like to reserve for you. 734 945 0720 and I will text you

Vendors Attending Saturday July 29th:

This week’s bag will likely contain a combination of some of the following: lettuce, kale, mini-cabbages, radishes, scallions, herbs, summer squash, and zucchini.

Hope to see you at the market!

Vendors Attending Saturday July 22nd:

Blackbird Farm of Coopersville
It was so good to be back with you all this past weekend, and we are looking forward to seeing you again at this Saturday’s market with all manner of good things to eat!
This week’s bag will likely contain a combination of some of the following: beets, head lettuce, kale, mini-cabbages, radishes, scallions, herbs, maybe broccoli, and potentially a summer squash or two.

Funny Farm of Grant
So far this week I’ll have: New! Carrots. Possibly: more gold & red beets with greens.  Also: Lettuce, green crisp and Romaine, washed bags of mixed lettuce, more summer squash and zucchini, dino and curly green kale, collards, some basil, sweet and lemon (going to top off the plants for branching), Swiss chard (bird netting saved it!), a few dz eggs, and anything else that I find that’s ready.
Check back with Friday’s news for any additions.  If there’s something you’d like me to reserve for you, please text me at 734 945 0720 and I’ll have it for you. Thanks to all for supporting our market this season!

FRIDAY UPDATE
Attending Saturday July 15th:

Blackbird Farm of Coopersville
For Friday Update, we will be bringing a selection of our veggies for walk up sales. See details below for how to preorder Veggie Bags and Weekly CSA for next week!
Friends, our field is bursting with good things to eat, and we are excited to be bringing them to you at this Saturday’s market!
Starting this week, we are again offering our pre-selected, pre-packed bags of fresh vegetables. This week’s bag will likely contain a combination of some of the following: head lettuce, kale, mini-cabbages, radishes, scallions, and fennel.
These will be offered in four different four-week sessions (basically the months of July, August, September, and October), with pick-up on the farm on Thursday evenings. Trial shares will be offered as either full shares ($140) or small shares ($75). The sign-up form is available online.
Thanks so much! We’re looking forward to seeing friends old and new this Saturday!

Funny Farm of Grant

Again, if there’s something you’d like me to reserve for you, please text me at 734 945 0720 and I’ll have it for you. Thanks to all for supporting our market this season!

RETURNING SOON

The Pasturage of Montague
We will not be at Sweetwater this weekend, 7/15. We will be at Muskegon bringing Gina up to speed so that we can be back and serving you on the 22nd. Coming down the pike: we are getting Gloucester Old Spot purebred heritage breed feeder pigs on Monday, July 10. We have spent the last month covered in poison ivy preparing a shady retreat in our brush for them to rotate through. In the UK, the breed is registered much like the Angus beef is here in the states because the pork is purported to be that much different from other breeds of pig. We’re putting that claim to the test. Our slaughter date is November 30 so if you have any special cuts you’d like to see or to purchase a whole or half hog, do let me know!
Our order form for Muskegon this coming Saturday: https://form.jotform.com/231266729632056 or you can always call/text 231 288 6112 or email thepasturage@gmail.com

Pine Row Farm of Rothbury
Hello :-),
One of our July 4th traditions is moving the bulls out with the cows. We moved Turbo in with the young cows at about 10:30 pm on the 3rd. He was the easiest; there were 2 gates to get him through. By 7:10 am on the 4th, Pistol was waiting by himself for me at the gate like he knew. We finished the morning chores and let him out into the yard, called him through a gate by the back waterer, behind the bale yard to the corner to cross the road, then opened the gate and let him out into the roadway, crossed the front pond lot, and called him into the water lot there. He made the nearly half mile trek out to the cows uneventfully! He easily weighs over a ton, so his disposition and our handling skills are critical!
We will accept orders until 5pm on Friday. If you miss the deadline or prefer to shop in person, I do bring a selection of what’s available every Saturday.
