Meadow View Goat Dairy of Fremont
Chevreʹ  Fresh chevre with a nice spreading consistency, perfect for sandwich toppings and cooking. Cherry Capital Foods of Traverse City says  ” The chèvre produced by Meadow View has a pitch perfect acidity on the palate that becomes gently sweet and milky with a grassy note on the finish.”
Seasoned Chevreʹ
Our fresh Chevre available in your favorite flavorings: Blueberry Vanilla (great on a morning bagel!) Hickory-smoked bacon Bits, Garlic, Italian Herb, & Hot Pepper
Feta
A smooth and creamy feta which is low in salt and rich in fresh goat milk flavor. The brining process gives feta cheese a salty, tangy flavor and a crumbly consistency. Feta cheese can be served as a table cheese, used in baking savory dishes, or served as an appetizer or in salads. The classic Greek salad is made with Feta cheese. In crumbles or cubes for easy slicing.
Tomme de Fremont
Our first aged cheese is quickly becoming a customer favorite! Developed from a French recipe, Tomme is a lower fat mold ripened cheese, aged at least 60 days. This gives the cheese a stronger flavor & firmer texture than the fresh Chevres, perfect for slicing.
Dutch Kase
A Meadow View Dairy original! If you are looking for a nicely aged but milder version of our Tomme, this is the cheese for you. Vacuum sealed without mold and aged at least 60 days.
Marco Similar to Dutch Kase but pasteurized and vacuum sealed, it comes in Pepper, Sage, Italian & Garlic.
Other items from our farm:
We’ll also have eggs from our free-range, GMO-free flock.
Note: We will be attending market the last Saturday of every month.

Bloom Ferments Kombucha

This cooler weather is perfect for enjoying a cup of coffee, tea or Hot Chocolate! Any way you like it, we have you covered! Every week we have 4-6 varieties of freshly roasted coffee, and 5+ varieties of loose leaf tea. This week we are adding Hot Chocolate to the lineup! Come check out our new shipment of Chocolate! We restocked everyone’s favorites, and got a few new ones to try. Our new roaster is installed in the new facility, and we are working on the licensing, so be watching for some exciting new developments over the next few weeks!

We will not be at market on Nov 8, so stock up this weekend!

Check our facebook page for details on our coffee of the week.

We will also plan to bring our Guatemala FTO, Papua New Guinea FTO, Colombia FTO, and a Decaf.

As always, we sell our coffee by the ounce so you can get the perfect amount to use while it is the freshest. We also have gift certificates; the perfect gift for a coffee lover!
Come taste the fresh difference! Coffee is seasonal, so expect some variety. We try not to roast too much extra in order to keep the coffee fresh every week.

Our list of Teas and Chocolates has gotten too long to include here, so check out our Facebook page for the full list of what we have available.

Email us to order in advance, and we will have it bagged up and ready for you. Advance orders will ensure that we don’t run out of your favorite coffee before you get there, and speed up your shopping if you are in a hurry!

Blackbird Farm of Coopersville
As temperatures drop, fall crops become sweeter, creating their own sort of antifreeze. The first frost is also my signal to begin the process of winding things down on the farm and preparing everything for the coming winter.
This week I will likely bring:
kale
collard greens
bok choi
tatsoi
komatsuna
napa cabbages
mini cabbages
storage cabbages

salad turnips
celeriac
carrots
potatoes
fall radishes
onions
shallots
garlic

Shady Side Farm of Holland
We’ve wrapped up bean harvest (except for the last variety, which looks like it would probably finish if we had 3 more months of hot weather–oh well!). We’ve also wrapped up our corn harvest, which is the last of the harvesting. So we think now about finishing up tasks that need to be done before winter–getting the barn ready for the sheep, putting away equipment, etc. And since it is getting dark earlier and earlier, we are starting to make socks and rugs and mittens and scarves again in the evenings.

We will be at the market this Saturday with 16 varieties of certified organic dry beans, all grown by us on our farm south of Grand Haven. We encourage you to try some beans if you haven’t had some in a while. They are so delicious and nutritious and are not that hard to work with. I am happy to talk you through the process, with tips and tricks I’ve learned of by talking with others and experimenting on my own.

One of the beans that we have not had in stock for a couple of years is the Green Flageolet. Green Flageolet Beans were introduced at the International Paris Exposition in 1878. These thin, mint green beans have a creamy, firm texture and a sweet mellow flavor. A quick-cooking bean, they don’t need to be soaked and become increasingly creamy the longer you cooks them. Flageolets are a great companion to fish or lamb. I like to serve them with butter, salt and dill.

In addition to our beans, I will have raw, aged cheese from Grassfields Farm in Coopersville. Grassfields Farm is an organic dairy farm, and they make aged cheeses from their non-pasturized, non-homogenized organic cow’s milk. I will have several different varieties along Saturday, including both the Aged Edam and the regular Edam (just back in stock after a couple of months).

Hope to see you Saturday!

Blackbird Farm of Coopersville
Frost arrived at the farm Friday morning last week, and though that does end some things, it also brings the heart of the fall crops into their own. As temperatures drop, they become sweeter, creating their own sort of antifreeze. The first frost is also my signal to begin the process of winding things down on the farm and preparing everything for the coming winter.
This week I will likely bring:
kale
collard greens
bok choi
tatsoi
komatsuna
napa cabbages
broccoli
baby fennel
leeks
celeriac
carrots
potatoes
turnips
fall radishes
red and yellow onions
shallots
garlic

Shady Side Farm of Holland
We will have the following freshly-harvested varieties of our certified organic beans along this week:
Black Calypso – Plump, with creamy texture. Slightly nutty, mellow taste, something like a russet potato.
Black Valentine – Taste like kidney beans, great for salads, soups and dips.
Green Flageolet – Fine, thin bean with a creamy, firm texture and a sweet mellow flavor.
Hidatsa Red – Similar to a kidney bean but with a slightly nutty taste, these beans are good in salads, chilis, soups or served with grains.
Hutterite Soup – Comfort food, cook fast, creamy soup, baby food.
Jacob’s Cattle – Big and meaty, taste & texture of new potatoes, traditional baked beans, chili.
Jacob’s Cattle Gold – Hold their shape and soak up other flavors well. Great for soups, stews, salads and baked beans.
Marrow – Plump, soft white beans that soak up the flavors of whatever you cook them with. Great soup beans.
October – Creamy, velvety smooth texture, nutty, sweet flavor, thin skin, soups or chili.
Nuña – Soak, then fry in oil in a pan for a few minutes for a firmer bean experience. Taste like fried potatoes.
Painted Lady – Slightly sweet, with a smooth, creamy texture.
Pinto – Earthy flavor, great in Mexican cooking, falls apart under long cooking. Also have a limited supply of split pintos for $1/pound.
NEW! Tiger Eye – Rich, hearty flavor, with a smooth texture and tender skins.
Yellow Indian Women – These buttery beans retain their shape well, and are less starchy than some other beans. Good all purpose bean.
Zebra – Smooth, creamy texture, full-bodied flavor, good all-purpose bean.
Leftover from last year, and discounted:
Black Turtle – (last year’s crop) Common black bean with a thick skin and a meaty texture. Discounted $1 a pound while supplies last.
Please let us know ahead of time if you’d like to order 5# bags of any one variety, so that we can pre-bag those and bring them along.
Ask about our grassfed lamb for your freezer. Last year some of our Sweetwater customers loved the lamb they got from us so much that this year they ordered two. (Same thing happened at Fulton Street Market in GR.)
In addition, we offer Grassfield Farms organic raw aged cheeses in the following flavors (new pricing this week):

Smoked Gouda – Smoky and rich, this cheese does not disappoint! $9
Aged Edam – This sharp skim milk cheese is wonderful! $9
Country Dill – A house favorite, the dill herb in Gouda well represents the fresh grass that dominates the cows’ diet. $7
Crofters – This delicious cheese is aged at least a year and has a medium sharp taste. The texture is dry and crumbly. Very similar to Parmesan. $9
Fait Gras – Grassfields’ signature cheese, Fait Gras is a triple cream cheddar. Rich! $9
Gouda – A traditional handmade cheese in keeping with West Michigan’s Dutch culture. $7
Lamont Cheddar – A rare, natural rind English cheese, named for the Grand River’s first settlement near our farm. $7
Leyden – Originally from the Rhine Valley, now the Grand River Valley; cumin perfectly compliments this aged Dutch cheese. $7
Cheese Sticks – Want to try some cheese, but don’t need a whole 8 ounces? We’ll have a few cheese sticks along each week, in a variety of cheese types, for $2 each.

Little Red Organics of Freesoil
The fall garden is the best garden, in our humble opinion.  The manic days of planting and cultivating in May and June have been forgotten, and instead the days are slower paced, the summer weed pressure has disappeared, and it has gotten a little frosty.
After a little exposure to chilly, frosty nights, many cold tolerant veggies develop sugars to protect them from freezing.  Any bitterness in broccoli disappears, and spinach becomes quite sweet.

HELP WANTED!  We are looking for someone to help at our stand for 2 hours on Saturday mornings making and serving the best toast around.  If you love the Sweetwater market (and want an extra reason to get there on Saturdays), send an email to:  charlie@laughingtreebakery.com    If you are interested in working with us, we would love to hear from you!

Blackbird Farm of Coopersville
We are set to have a pretty thorough frost over the weekend, so I am busy protecting what I can and harvesting what I can’t. Certainly we are going to say goodbye to the last of the hangers-on of the summer crops this week. But we still have plenty of cold-hardy vegetables in the field to take us through the rest of the fall. Overall, I am ready for this significant shift in the rhythm of the farm.
This week I will likely bring:
kale
chard
collard greens
bok choi
tatsoi
napa cabbages
mini cabbages
broccoli
baby fennel
sweet peppers
eggplant
leeks
celery
carrots
potatoes
turnips
fall radishes
red and yellow onions
shallots
garlic

Shady Side Farm of Holland
The beans are back! We continue to harvest our certified organic beans, and will have the following freshly-harvested varieties along this week:
Black Calypso – Plump, with creamy texture. Slightly nutty, mellow taste, something like a russet potato.
Black Valentine – Taste like kidney beans, great for salads, soups and dips.
In addition, we offer Grassfield Farms organic raw aged cheeses in the following flavors:
NEW! Smoked Gouda – I’ll have samples along. Smoky and rich, this cheese does not disappoint!
NEW! Aged Edam – I’ll have samples along. Two years old, this skim milk cheese is wonderful!
Country Dill – A house favorite, the dill herb in Gouda well represents the fresh grass that dominates the cows’ diet.
Crofters – This delicious cheese is aged at least a year and has a medium sharp taste. The texture is dry and crumbly. Very similar to Parmesan.
Fait Gras – Grassfields’ signature cheese, Fait Gras is a triple cream cheddar. Rich!
Gouda – A traditional handmade cheese in keeping with West Michigan’s Dutch culture.
Lamont Cheddar – A rare, natural rind English cheese, named for the Grand River’s first settlement near our farm.
Leyden – Originally from the Rhine Valley, now the Grand River Valley; cumin perfectly compliments this aged Dutch cheese.
Cheese Sticks – Want to try some cheese, but don’t need a whole 8 ounces? We’ll have a few cheese sticks along each week, in a variety of cheese types, for $2 each.
Ask about our grassfed lamb for your freezer. Last year some of our Sweetwater customers loved the lamb they got from us so much that this year they ordered two. (Same thing happened at Fulton Street Market in GR.)
Finally, I will have my handwoven rag rugs along this Saturday.
See you Saturday!

Maple Moon Farm of Shelby
We’ve been busy gathering in the harvest and preparing the gardens for the cold weather months.  This week we spent the better part of three days harvesting our potato field.  We grew seven different varieties, and they all look big and beautiful.  We gathered up over 9,000 row ft of potatoes to feed you all winter.  We use an old fashion potato digger that brings the tubers to the surface of the soil, and then we pick them up by hand.  It is one of our favorite harvests!  We are so grateful to Nancy Oomey and Sandy Vandenberg, who played with Zen and Sova while we harvested, and to Elsie Binns and Kathleen Rash for bringing fresh energy to the final day of harvest. We’re also grateful to the Bobiers who rent us the beautiful ground where we grow our potatoes. We’ll begin cleaning and sorting them, and have at least one variety ready for market on Saturday.

The Roaring Mouse Coffee Roasters of Hart
This cooler weather is perfect for enjoying a cup of coffee or tea! Either way you like it, we have you covered! Every week we have 4-6 varieties of freshly roasted coffee, and 5+ varieties of loose leaf tea. We also have some amazing fair-trade organic chocolate barks, and chocolate covered coffee beans! We can only bring a few varieties of our chocolates to the market each week, so be sure to check out our list on Facebook and pre-order if there is something specific you want.

Featured coffee of the week! Check our facebook page for details on our coffee of the week.

We will also plan to bring our Guatemala FTO, Papua New Guinea FTO, Colombia FTO, and Sumatra Decaf.

Green Flageolet – Creamy, firm texture and a sweet mellow flavor.
Hidatsa Red – Similar to a kidney bean but with a slightly nutty taste, these beans are good in salads, chilis, soups or served with grains.
Hutterite Soup – Comfort food, cook fast, creamy soup, baby food.
Hutterite Soup – (last year’s crop) Comfort food, cook fast, creamy soup, baby food. Discounted $2 a pound while supplies last.
Jacob’s Cattle – (last year’s crop) Big and meaty, taste & texture of new potatoes, traditional baked beans, chili. Discounted $2 a pound while supplies last.
Please let us know ahead of time if you’d like to order 5# bags of any one variety, so that we can pre-bag those and bring them along.

Laughing Tree Bakery of Hart
Well, we’ve had a fire in the woodstove these past few days—no roaring blaze yet, but just enough to keep the chill out the house.  Our neighbor Jim (for whom Griff’s 8 Grain is named) was out stacking wood on his porch this morning—this is the act which signifies fall for us like no other.  As we passed Jim, my son Finn turned to me in the car and said, “I guess that means winter is coming Mom!”  So grateful Sweetwater when the weather turns cold!
We will be bringing our RUSTIC BAGUETTES to the market every week for the next month or so…  If you haven’t tried one of these hand-rolled beauties, you are in for a treat!  It takes twice as long to roll our baguettes as any of our other loaves—but we think they are well worth the effort…  Ask for a taste!

Hidatsa Red – Similar to a kidney bean but with a slightly nutty taste, these beans are good in salads, chilis, soups or served with grains.
Pinto – Earthy flavor, great in Mexican cooking, falls apart under long cooking. Also have a limited supply of split pintos for $1/pound.

See you Saturday!

Maple Moon Farm of Shelby
Our farm is based on the idea of growing food for our neighbors to contribute to a healthy community.  It is our customers that make us a community farm (because otherwise we’re really just those folks who are growing way too much food).  It is important to us to honor and acknowledge those who support us in all our gorwing endevours.  We want to highlight some of these special people with our Customer of the Month.  For October 2015, that person is Margaret Bart.  Margaret has supported our farm for years, sharing with us her love of food.  She tells us food stories of her youth, shares recipes with us, and is always looking for the smallest produce-just the right size for one person (we now save these for her).  Like most of you that know her, we love Margaret, and are so appreciative of her and the ways she supports our farm.  Like all future Customers of the Month, Margaret will receive 10% off all purchases this month.

We have lots of exciting produce to offer you this week!

FRESH GINGER-we grew this heat loving tropical plant right here in west MI.  Enjoy this baby ginger, incredible flavor and no peeling required.  Available this week only!  This freezes very easily, so you can stock up.

This week we are featuring our Guatemala Acatenango.. This is a delicious medium roast with notes of almonds and dark bakers chocolate.

We will also plan to bring our Ethiopia Amaro Gayo Natural, Papua New Guinea FTO, Colombia FTO, and Sumatra Decaf.

As always, we sell our coffee by the ounce so you can get the perfect amount to use while it is the freshest. We also have gift certificates; the perfect gift for a coffee lover!

Meadow View Goat Dairy of Fremont
Cherry Vanilla Chevre is our newest addition to our spreadable Chevres. We think you’ll like this one, especially good on a morning bagel!

Shady Side Farm of Holland
We have begun harvesting our certified organic dry beans this week, and we are excited that we may be able to bring back some old friends to you this Saturday. Stop by our stall and ask what’s new.

Sale! To clear out the old, we are discounting all last year’s beans. We will have the following available at $2 off per pound: Black Valentine, Hutterite Soup, and Jacob’s Cattle. We have the following at $1 off per pound: Black Turtle and Pinto.

If money is tight, now would be a great time to contact us about stocking up on last year’s beans. They are still wonderfully nutritious and delicious beans. Bulk purchasing (5, 10, and 25 lb. bags) through pre-orders is available for Jacob’s Cattle and Black Turtle. Email us at shadysidefarmmichigan@gmail.com before Friday noon, please.

We will have Grassfields Farms cheese (from the Meermans in Coopersville) along in several varieties, including the wonderful new Smoked Gouda. They are sold out of Edam and Aged Cheddar for a few months, so if you particularly like these varieties, stop by the stall and snatch up the last one or two I have in my stock.

Finally, we have lambs that are ready for your freezer. They are grass-fed, and this year we were able to raise them without the use of any medications. Stop at the stall and ask me for a Freezer Lamb Fact Sheet.

Next week we will not be at market, so please stock up on what you need for the next two weeks.

Fall is contraction – gathering things scattered in the rush, collecting and inventorying. Time to get the farm – and ourselves – ready for the quieter parts of the year. This week we’ve been busy cleaning onions, shallots and garlic to store. We’re waiting and watching as our cauliflower, Napa and storage cabbages are heading up .. We’ve also been getting the ground ready for a long winter’s nap – rolling in drip lines and tilling and mowing to keep our spring weeds to a minimum.

Little Red Organics of Freesoil
Tis the season for putting veggies away for the winter.  Things on the farm have slowed down enough that we’re packing our Mason jars and freezer bags.  There is a new to us method of freezing veggies without blanching.  It works if you plan on using the frozen goodies within twelve months of freezing, otherwise blanching is necessary.  We have tried it successfully with shelling peas and beans so far. . . it is a real time saver.
We have tons of stuff for bulk freezing and canning (see below).  A number of things will continue in bulk, but tomatoes are headed out quickly.  We have everything but limes for making 99.9% local salsa & dilly beans!
Best,
Kate, John & Laila

Hutterite Soup – Comfort food, cook fast, creamy soup, baby food.
Jacob’s Cattle – Big and meaty, taste & texture of new potatoes, traditional baked beans, chili. We’ve got a lot of these beans left, so they are discounted $2 a pound while supplies last.
Marrow – (Almost gone) Plump, soft white beans that soak up the flavors of whatever you cook them with.
October – (Almost gone) Creamy, velvety smooth texture, nutty, sweet flavor, thin skin, soups or chili.

NEW! Smoked Gouda – I’ll have samples along. It’s amazing!

Country Dill – A house favorite, the dill herb in Gouda well represents the fresh grass that dominates the cows’ diet.
Crofters – This delicious cheese is aged 1 year with a medium sharp taste. The texture is dry and crumbly. Very similar to Parmesan.
Edam – A variety of Gouda made with skim milk: Elastic, yet firm, this flawless low fat cheese is our best melter, improving any dish.
Garlic & Onion – The most aromatic of herbs. Don’t be the only one in the room to eat this spiced Gouda or you soon will be.
Gouda – A traditional handmade cheese in keeping with West Michigan’s (and our family’s) Dutch culture.
Lamont Cheddar – A rare, natural rind English cheese, named for the Grand River’s first settlement near our farm.
Leyden – Originally from the Rhine Valley, now the Grand River Valley; cumin perfectly compliments this aged Dutch cheese.

Bonao Cacao of Muskegon
This Bonao cacao is raw, organic and carefully hand picked to insure premium quality. The farm located in the Dominican Republic uses earth friendly practices and even holds “The cacao experience” where people can come see the farm, learn and have fun participating in the farming! Cocoa comes from the cacao tree and then is roasted and processed to make the powder and chocolates everyone loves. However, during this process many of the nutrients and antioxidants are lost. Cacao is the same as cocoa but in a raw form, allowing the beans to stay in it’s natural state to give you the best benefits possible. Come check us out this Saturday for a sample of the bean itself and to learn more! We have beans, powder, nibs, butter and tasty healthy chocolates! We look forward to seeing everybody Saturday!

Shady Side Farm of Holland
NOTE: I will not be at market next Saturday, September 5, so please stock up this week for your Labor Day festivities. This week I will have along our certified organic beans, all harvested last fall, in the following varieties:
Black Turtle – Common black bean with a thick skin and a meaty texture. We’ve got a lot of these beans left, so they are discounted $1 a pound while supplies last.
Black Valentine – Taste like kidney beans, great for salads, soups and dips.
Painted Lady – (Almost gone) Slightly sweet bean, smooth, creamy texture, good in everything.
Pinto – (Almost gone) Earthy flavor, great in Mexican cooking, falls apart under long cooking.
Zebra – (Almost gone) Smooth, creamy texture, full-bodied flavor, good all-purpose bean.
Please let us know ahead of time if you’d like to order 5# bags of any one variety, so that we can pre-bag those and bring them along.
In addition, we offer Grassfield Farms organic raw aged cheeses in the following flavors:
NEW! Smoked Gouda – I’ll have samples along. Sounds delicious!
Aged Cheddar – You asked, and we listened! A sharp cheddar, aged a year. Award-winning!

Cheese Sticks – Want to try some cheese, but don’t need a whole 8 ounces? We’ll have a few cheese sticks along each week, in a variety of cheese types, for $2 each.
I’ll also bring along some hand-dyed yarn for fall/winter knitting projects. This wool or wool/nylon blend yarn is from our sheep, hand-dyed by us. Stop by and see what we’ve got!

Meadow View Goat Dairy of Fremont
We’ll be bringing our Sweet Corn, Incredible, and usual assortment of fresh and aged Chevre’s this Saturday!
We will be at market ONLY the last Saturday of the month.  Hope to see you this week, thank you!

The Roaring Mouse of Hart
New coffee and a new display! We were busy on our week off, and made some changes to our display. Also we have new coffees from Guatemala, Colombia, and Ethiopia.
We are still working on our teas. This week we will have the same black and green teas available. Hopefully soon we will be adding more.
Come by to learn how to brew better coffee using the French Press or a pour-over cone. We have both for sale, as well as filters for the cone. This week we will also be showcasing the Aeropress!
Come and get a fresh brewed-to-order cup of our freshly roasted coffee! Get a ceramic cup to enjoy at the market for $1 or a to-go cup for $3.
As always, we sell our coffee by the ounce so you can get the perfect amount to use while it is the freshest. We also have gift certificates; the perfect gift for a coffee lover!
In the roaster this week:
New! Colombia FTO – Similar in taste to the Guatemala, but with more of a brown sugar and honey sweetness, and less of the chocolate.
New! Guatemala FTO – A deliciously sweet, low acid replacement for our Peru. Milk chocolate and caramel notes, with a full body. Roasted to a medium level, this coffee is great with or without milk.
New! Ethiopia Amaro Gayo Org. – A deliciously fruity light roast, this coffee has notes of strawberry and brown sugar. The aroma reminds me of fresh strawberry pie! This coffee is grown, harvested, processed, and exported by Ethiopia’s only female miller/exporter Asnakech Thomas. She is dedicated to improving the quality of life of women and children in the area, and is working toward building a hospital. She is also dedicated to producing the highest quality organic coffee.
Papua New Guinea FTO – Low acid, with notes of caramel and nuts. A good, strong medium-dark roast.
Decaffeinated Peru FTO – rich and sweet, with chocolate and caramel notes. A very delicious decaf! This coffee was decaffeinated using the Mountain Water Process. It is a natural, chemical free process which allows the bean to retain much of its unique flavor.
Come taste the fresh difference!
