Friday Market NewsletterAbout this Friday newsletter. Monday’s email will give you the list of products from vendors that can be (in some cases, need to be) preordered. It gives you the list of vendors, their products and how to contact to place an order.
The Friday email is more like our traditional “What’s New” at the market and will list who is coming and what they are bringing for walk in sales.
Hope that helps explain things.
Have a happy, healthy & safe 4th of July weekend, and hope to see you at the market!

-Friday is the last day to preorder those tasty tortillas from J&J Tortilla for the July 9th Market! See list at end.
-Forest Finds has a new Summer Product Pricelist available! Check out the essential summer skin care products! They will take preorders as well as walk up sales on Saturday.
-See Sarah’s farm musings at Pine Row Farm, it will put a smile on your face!
-Two tips for easy market navigating: bring cash when possible (keeps all the $$ in the right pockets!) and bring a cooler!

Hello :-),
In the farm news. The mulberries are ripe, milkweed is blooming, and the fireflies are plentiful. The whippoorwill song in the late evening and happy chatter of the barn swallows by day provide encouragement as we do chores. The cow calf group has crossed the road again to graze the south side of the farm. The turkeys are old enough to be free range and are learning to go into the poultry coop at night. We are in week two of training up a new livestock guardian pup. She is 3 months old. The kids have named her Artemis. I call her Art.
We will accept orders until 5pm on Friday. I will plan to get totals emailed out by 9:00pm.  If you don’t get a response from me, please contact me. We accept cash or check payable to Pine Row Farm.

Nowadays, I am so thankful he is willing and able to help, and a fan of what we’re doing in the farm. The farm would not be where it is without his assistance. Thank your dad! (Perhaps in grill-able form, check out the list here:)

Bring Water to the Woven Farm!

The growing season is here, and the professional drillers Sam has conferred with have told her that she may have to put in a residential well, which means she has to go very deep, maybe 200 ft deep, and that brings us to our urgent request:  The Woven Farm needs funds, immediately, in order to get water.
You can read about Sam’s saga on her Instagram page here https://www.instagram.com/the.woven.trifecta/

All farmers know that they will contend with the vagaries of the weather, and accept that without question as part of the cost of farming. But this is different; this is a show stopping emergency. The growing season is here, and The Woven Farmstead needs our help, and the sooner, the better.

The GoFundME page we have created for Sam is here:

We are so thrilled to have the sheep on grass! We move the flock four times per day to ensure the health of the pasture and the flock (it’s not hard because we have a pretty good system).  In time, as summer progresses and as our pasture improves, we hope to reduce moving them to one or two times per day.  We remain committed to 100% grass-fed because we believe it is the best thing for the lamb, the pasture and You!
We will be at Sweetwater this weekend, June 4, so feel free to pre-order from the linked list.  All of those items will also be available for walk up purchase. A reminder that if you’d like more than one of something, pre-ordering guarantees you’ll get what you want!

The Woven Farmstead

Bring Water to the Woven Farm!
To: The Sweetwater Community and People Who Want to See Small Local Organic Farms Survive
Many of you have already met Samantha Otto & know of her Woven Farmstead.  This extraordinary young farmer joined our market a few seasons ago, coaxing an amazing amount of vegetables from a very small piece of leased land near Wesley School in Muskegon.

Over a year ago Sam & her husband purchased a piece of property in Fruitland Township. They worked diligently to clear that land, & had installed a greenhouse in the middle of winter & shortly after that put in a well and were on their way to realizing the dream of a new farm when through a visit from strangers one day learned they had been sold the wrong parcel of land!

After consulting with the real estate agent who sold them the property she secured the correct parcel and without skipping a beat deconstructed the hoophouse & well and moved it to the new parcel further north.

To try to explain Sam’s “get it done” spirit, you only need to read what she wrote after moving to the new parcel:  “It’s wild how vastly different this space is, compared to what we thought we had purchased. In many ways, the differences are flustering. So many set backs and losses and extra work going into the differences; yet this land continues to shine with its beauty and offerings. I am grateful for this space, and so excited to share it with you this season.”
The new property had to be cleared, it needed a road and the weather did not cooperate. None of which stopped Sam.
Until now.
Again from Sam: “Once the land was ready, we reinstalled the well earlier this month only to discover it was dry. We then reinstalled it again, and again, and AGAIN! We are currently on our 5th install and our 3rd set of parts. between hitting clay, stripping threads, and wasting a whole lot of time, we are shifting our focus to other alternatives, and will hopefully have water soon!”
As of this writing Sam is bringing in water and doing as much handwatering as she can manage. Several neighboring farms, Tortoise & Hare & Lundell Farm have offered to help give her water in large containers, but CLEARLY this will not work for the field crops and the future of her farm’s success.

The GoFundME page we have created for Sam is here:
https://www.gofundme.com/f/bring-water-to-woven-farm?utm_source=customer&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_campaign=p_cf+share-flow-1

We are setting a modest goal of $5000 in hopes that we can quickly raise the needed funds and fingers crossed, surpass that goal to help Sam get water to her farm.

Please consider making a donation. If you prefer to send it directly to Sam, here is her address:

Seedlings are available for preorder! I am offering preorders on seedling plants this year! This will allow me to grow a bit more sustainably as it will prevent over seeding and wasting resources. (I will have limited seedling availability for walk up purchases though May and June)
However, if you would like to guarantee yourself seedlings consider preordering below!
All seedlings will be healthy and well rooted in a 3” pot, ready to transplant into your own garden!
All seedlings will be available to pick up on farm or at Sweetwater market from late May through June!
