Sweetwater Saturday July 3rd Farmers Market

Sweetwater Local Foods Market

Saturday, July 3, 2021
10:00am to 11:00am
Mercy Health Lakes Village
6401 Harvey St. at US31/Pontaluna Rd.

Sweetwater Community
Sweetwater slipped into year #15 during the pandemic, so as we celebrate the 4th of July this weekend we would like to celebrate our 15 years by reminding everyone of who we are.

The one thing that has always set our market apart from other farmers markets is our commitment to transparency through our pledge. Signed by all participants, the Pledge is your guarantee that Sweetwater farmers & food producers are committed to raising animal and vegetable products in a manner that builds a living soil, promotes animal welfare and as a result fosters human and environmental health. This means NO synthetic fertilizers, NO synthetic chemical pesticides or herbicides, NO growth promoting antibiotics and NO GMOS!

If there is one thing the pandemic quickly taught us, it’s that knowing where your food comes from and how it is produced is key to a healthy planet. Is it time for you to declare independence from the industrial version of a healthy food system?

If you’re new to the market, please see instructions along with the map at the bottom of this newsletter for more info on How to Order & Pick Up at Market. We will also be sending out a Friday update email as a reminder and to list any new products.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR How to Pre-Order (for both Drive Through & Park & Walk-in)
1. Look over the list. Each vendor has a unique deadline for when they need to receive your pre-order depending on their product. Send your pre-order by email to each vendor you want to order from, within their required deadlines.
2. Vendors will respond back by no later than Friday before market day with an order confirmation and an invoice that in most cases will allow you to pre-pay for your order. If a vendor is not set up to take payment online they will accept checks (preferred) or cash in a sealed envelope on market day pickup.
3. Market Day for Park & Walk-in. Please see the map for where you will need to park and enter the market space. You may pick up your pre-orders from each vendor & purchase from additional vendors who have extra products.
4. Market Day For Drive Through Pre-Orders: Please see the  market map with arrows indicating which way you should plan to approach the market. You are basically going to circle the perimeter of the vendor area, stopping behind the vehicles of each vendor you have placed an order with. 5. (Drive Through) Using a sheet of paper at least 8.5 x 11, please list all of the vendors you have orders with in black marker (or something as visible), large enough for vendors to see it clearly.  Please put your first & last name at the top of the list. Tape or hold up the list to the side window or front windshield where it will be most visible.
6. Have your trunk, or designated area of your car ready to receive your goods. A cooler is suggested for refrigerated & frozen items.
7. As you are driving through, each vendor will bring your order to your vehicle and place it in the trunk or other designated space, and collect payment if you have not paid in advance. Again, please have checks (preferred) or cash in a sealed envelope with your name and the name of the vendor on the outside of it.

STAY IN TOUCH!
If you have not already done so you may want to sign up for the newsletter

The Pasturage LLC of Montague
Julie Engel owns and operates The Pasturage, LLC. Our pigs and sheep range on 40 acres in Montague, MI.  The pigs eat certified organic grain (75% corn, 25% soy), are born on the farm, primarily roam in the woods, and get hay and baleage in the winter.  The sheep are 100% grass-fed, are moved daily to a new paddock in the summer, and are also born on the farm.
Highlight of the week: Lamb Leg Steak.  Think holiday flavor packed into individual portions.  It’s just as tender and delicious as a whole leg of lamb roast, but defrosts in a flash and cooks in minutes on the grill.  It’s like Christmas in July!

Thank you for the great market last week! Allen Kaufman’s strawberries were the star of the show, as they should be, and you were all very gracious and patient waiting in line to get some – thank you to everyone! For this coming week you will have two options to pre-order more strawberries! Please see the Kaufman Produce listing for details.
PLEASE NOTE: We are returning to a one hour market from 10 to 11 this Saturday!
You are basically going to come in to the market the same way as before and then circle the perimeter of the vendor area, exiting the same way you come in. We will also have signs to help point you in the right direction.
Covid Policy. As of May 29th, even though there is now no requirement for vaccinated adults to wear masks, all vendors will have masks and will wear them when customers wear masks.

STAY IN TOUCH!
If you have not already done so you may want to sign up for the newsletter

The Pasturage LLC of Montague
Julie Engel owns and operates The Pasturage, LLC. Our pigs and sheep range on 40 acres in Montague, MI.  The pigs eat certified organic grain (75% corn, 25% soy), are born on the farm, primarily roam in the woods, and get hay and baleage in the winter.  The sheep are 100% grass-fed, are moved daily to a new paddock in the summer, and are also born on the farm.
Highlight of the week: Here’s my sage advice for cooking meat: cultivate an herb garden.  Using fresh herbs in your dishes really makes them come alive.  I believe people love sausage because the herbs are already mixed in.  We’ve done just that for you with our newest product: lamb sausage!  We have breakfast links, Italian links, and regular and garlic brats.  Perfect for pork averse people.

You are basically going to come in to the market the same way as before and then circle the perimeter of the vendor area, exiting the same way you come in. We will also have signs to help point you in the right direction.
Covid Policy. As of May 29th, even though there is now no requirement for vaccinated adults to wear masks, all vendors will have masks and will wear them when customers wear masks. In this time of transition we ask that everyone be cautious about distancing and please don’t attend if you don’t feel well! Thanks!

STAY IN TOUCH!
If you have not already done so you may want to sign up for the newsletter

Please welcome a new farm to the market this week: Allen & Elsie Kaufman of Kaufman Produce of Newaygo! They will be bringing Certified Organic strawberries this week so plan to come early if you want some!
A reminder that for most vendors, pre-orders are still the best way to get the products you want, and also assures your farmers and food producers of enough guaranteed sales to make the trip to market worthwhile. As the summer season rolls in you will see plenty of products available for walk-in purchase as well. We will send a Friday Update email listing those additional products available without preorder.
If you’re new to the market, please see instructions along with the map at the bottom of this newsletter for more info on How to Order & Pick Up at Market. Payment is accepted online when you preorder, or cash/check at time of pickup. We will also be sending out a Friday update email for a list of what can be purchased by parking & walking in on Saturday, without preordering.

You are basically going to come in to the market the same way as before and then circle the perimeter of the vendor area, exiting the same way you come in. We will also have signs to help point you in the right direction.

You are basically going to come in to the market the same way as before and then circle the perimeter of the vendor area, exiting the same way you come in. We will also have signs to help point you in the right direction.
Covid Policy. As of May 29th, even though there is now no requirement for vaccinated adults to wear masks, all vendors will have masks and will wear them when customers wear masks. In this time of transition we ask that everyone be cautious about distancing and please don’t attend if you don’t feel well! Thanks!
