Vendors Attending Saturday October 29th:

Blackbird Farm of Coopersville
Thursday morning saw the farm’s first heavy frost of the season, which will sweeten up the many fall crops still in the field. And though the temperatures are dropping and the days shortening, there is still plenty of deliciousness to be enjoyed!
This Saturday at market we will be bringing:
BRUSSELS SPROUTS: We are having our best ever Brussels sprouts harvest, and this week’s frost has sweetened them up nicely. Don’t miss out on this fall treat.
BABY BEET, CARROT, AND POTATO ROASTING MIX: Little nuggets of deliciousness specially selected and ready for your roasting pan.
BROCCOLI: Some of the nicest we’ve grown this season, sweet and tender.
GARLIC: Sales have been steady this fall, and we are running low on our stock, so don’t delay. We have two varieties available: Music, and our special farm heirloom variety Anna Barbara’s Ohio Red.
SEED GARLIC: It’s not too late to plant garlic! We have a small quantity of select, pre-popped garlic cloves ready to go into the soil.
We will also be bringing:
Kale
Lettuce
Baby greens
Bok choi
Tatsoi
Kohlrabi
Mini-cabbages
Full-size cabbages
Salad turnips
Fennel
Purple Viking potatoes
Beets
Carrots
Celeriac

Top o’ the week to ya.  We will be at Sweetwater on 10/29 with apples.  This may be our last weekend with the phenomenal red strained honeycrisp, but as with all things related to the future, it’s hard to say for sure.  What I CAN say is that our meat list is updated and attached.  We still have plenty of your favorites, including bacon and brats.  My inventory says we are down to our last 40# of andouille, though, at which point it will not be back in stock as the slaughterhouse has discontinued making it.  Enjoy this last blast of warm weather before winter!

Prices for apples are as follows:
Under 24# is $3.25/#
Over 24# is $3.00/#

The Mannor Farm of Hesperia
In Mexican Spanish, there are three peppers that change names when changing state.  The poblano pepper is one of the three.  Dried poblanos are ‘acho’, which is Spanish for ‘wide’.  It is sweet and earthy with a touch of heat.  We are currently working on getting our Ancho Peppers ready for the market and hope to have them ready for this week’s market.
We will have the following available for this week.
Napa/Chinese Cabbage – $3 per bag.   (2 heads per bag – 1 lb per bag more or less)    Limited amount.
Garlic Granules   Our Certified Naturally Grown garlic chopped and dehydrated.  Dehydrated garlic saves efficient cooks the trouble of peeling and handling fresh cloves.   And it is compact compared to having to store garlic bulbs.  And it will never sprout on you.  $8 Net Wt 3 oz jar
Crushed Hot Pepper   A blend of our Certified Naturally Grown hot peppers.   Add a little zest to your chili, soups or fresh salads.  $7 Net Wt 2 oz jar
Black Storage Radishes $3 per quart  These radishes are a great one for storage and can be stored up to a month or longer.   These radishes are larger than the radishes that most people are used to.  They are snow white in the center and have a peppery taste that is mellowed when cooked.  They are great with a nice full body beer, in a veggie platter or salad.  Try radishes cooked in the same way you would cook potatoes…they are great roasted, fried, or mashed.
Honeynut Squash $1 each  This variety of butternut squash is sweeter and smaller running 1/2 to 1 1/2 lbs each.
Tuffy acorn squash $1 each   This variety of acorn squash is smaller running 1/2 to 1 1/2 lbs each.
Whole Chicken $4.50 per lb. 5 – 6 lbs  Our poultry and rabbits are always young and fed 100% CNG or organic feed.   USDA Inspected
Young Guinea Fowl  $8 per lb 2.5 – 3 lbs   Guinea Fowl is all dark meat, very tender, and very similar to pheasant without a gamey taste.  Try guinea fowl roasted with a red currant gravy or batter fried like chicken. Our poultry and rabbits are always young and fed 100% CNG or organic fed.  USDA Inspected
Johansen’s Maple Syrup  $10 pint  Jed Johansen is a retired Navy Master Chief who lives northeast of Hesperia.  Jed and his family raise mushrooms and veggies as well as process the sap from the Maple trees on their arm.  This maple syrup is NOT Certified Naturally Grown.
We are currently out of our Rabbit but will have more back in stock in November.  We normally offer our poultry and rabbit frozen.  If you are interested in buying it fresh (not frozen), let us know and we can arrange pick-up the day we get it from the processor.
All our produce and poultry are Certified Naturally Grown.  It is Locally Grown Naturally!
Please send orders to dlmannor1975@gmail.com or text to 231-301-9894.  We will send an invoice via Square for payment.  If you prefer, you may pay with cash at time of pick-up on Saturday.

Ed. note about Honeycrisp apples: I incorrectly identified them as certified organic. While they are certainly organically grown they are not yet certified. The Jensens are working with OEFFA as their certifier.  They have gone to the expense of doing the required testing and are keeping all of the records required. Their contact at OEFFA told them for this first year it wasn’t worth the expense to pay to get the certification until they had more volume. They shared their tests & results with Sweetwater.

Forest Finds of Muskegon
Change in plans, we will be attending this Saturday, but not the next.
And, I have two new items.
Mulberry shrub! $11
Organic mulberries extracted in apple cider vinegar and our raw honey. The combo of apple cider vinegar and honey is a good electrolyte mix. This makes a nice addition to sparkling or still water, for extra flavor and hydration. This is also a great addition to olive oil for a salad dressing.
Elderberry syrup! $15/4oz
Local wild elderberries with warming spices, herb extracts, and our raw honey. Tastiest way to fight those seasonal bugs!

Ed. note about Honeycrisp apples: I incorrectly identified them as certified organic.

The Mannor Farm of Hesperia
This week we have the following Certified Naturally Grown items.
Please send pre-orders to dlmannor1975@gmail.com or text to 231-301-9894.  Please include your email address so I can send you an invoice that you may pay with a credit/debit card.  We also accept cash or credit card payment at time of pick up.
Try guinea fowl roasted with a red current gravy or batter fried like chicken. Our poultry and rabbits are always young and fed 100% CNG or organic fed.  USDA Inspected
Green beans $3 per quart or $5 for 1/2 peck.   We have a very limited quantity left. I  These beans were picked on October 5th and have been stored in our walk-in cooler since they were picked.  These green beans will be the last ones for this season.
All items sold are Certified Naturally Grown and all poultry is frozen and processed by a USDA facility.
Try roasted fall vegetables using Radishes, carrots, potatoes, turnips, onion and/or Jerusalem Artichokes served with roasted chicken or guinea fowl.
We accept credit/debit cards or cash at pickup.

Are you enjoying those apples?!  Aren’t they good?!  Neither the Jensen’s nor I have cold storage, so if you want them throughout the fall, I highly recommend buying in bulk now and figuring out a place to store them.  We will have them at Sweetwater on 10/1 and 10/15.  We will NOT be at Sweetwater on 10/8 or 10/22.  I do not know if the apples will keep until 10/29, but if they do, I’ll plan to bring them then.  Feel free to pre-order; walk-ups welcome. Bring your own containers, please.

Prices are as follows:
Under 24# is $3.25/#
Over 24# is $3.00/#
Keep in mind 24# is about a half bushel, which nearly fills a paper grocery bag. I thank you for your patience as I fumble and figure this out!
Don’t forget to pre-order your pork and lamb as well Get the whole list here:
