We are grateful for the cold snowy season, that slows life down and provides a quiet stillness.  The plants in the hoops are also enjoying the quiet stillness.  They are resting, not busy growing, so we will have greens another week.  With the solstice just around the corner, the days will begin to grow longer and activity will begin to stir again.  In the meantime we have earthy veggies to offer and lots of herbal products to nourish us through the winter season.

We are busy looking through seed catalogs and making exciting plans for next year’s growing.  Is there something you would like us to grow?  Let us know!

A short note on where our seeds come from: We try to save whatever we can ourselves.  We feel this is the ideal, but don’t always have all the time we would like to harvest varieties.  We order from Seed Saver Exchange (we are members, members produce 100% open pollinated varieties), High Mowing Organics (the only 100% organic seed company), and Turtle Tree Seeds (biodynamic seeds-we LOVE this amazing little company).

Meadow View Goat Dairy & Farm of Fremont

New! Gift Boxed for Christmas giving. We will have some examples of an assortment of gift  boxes for Christmas gifting. We can take your orders this week!

Plain Chevreʹ

Fresh chevre with a nice spreading consistency, perfect for sandwich toppings and cooking. Cherry Capital Foods of Traverse City says  ” The chèvre produced by Meadow View has a pitch perfect acidity on the palate that becomes gently sweet and milky with a grassy note on the finish.”

Seasoned Chevreʹ

Our fresh Chevre available in your favorite flavorings: Blueberry Vanilla (great on a morning bagel!) Hickory-smoked bacon Bits, Garlic, Italian Herb, & Hot Pepper

Feta

A smooth and creamy feta which is low in salt and rich in fresh goat milk flavor. The brining process gives feta cheese a salty, tangy flavor and a crumbly consistency. Feta cheese can be served as a table cheese, used in baking savory dishes, or served as an appetizer or in salads. The classic Greek salad is made with Feta cheese. In crumbles or cubes for easy slicing.

Dutch Kase

A Meadow View Dairy original! If you are looking for a nicely aged but milder version of our Tomme, this is the cheese for you. Vacuum sealed without mold and aged at least 60 days.

Tomme de Fremont

Our first aged cheese is quickly becoming a customer favorite! Developed from a French recipe, Tomme is a lower fat mold ripened cheese, aged at least 60 days. This gives the cheese a stronger flavor & firmer texture than the fresh Chevres, perfect for slicing.

September’s Herbs & Produce of Montague

We’re busy preparing our  beautiful Holiday Wreaths & Swags see you next market!

Chickadee Creek Farm of Nunica

We will be at market with our freezer full of pork.   We are out of a few items, but we still have a good supply of delicious pork chops, which will be on sale tomorrow!  There are a few nice shoulder roasts left–great for slow cooking, they have the potential for some wonderful, hearty dishes to beat the cold and snow coming next week.   Pulled pork, Cuban sandwiches, a simple pork roast, pork tacos….   Also, we are running out of sausage, tomorrow we will have a small amount of Andouille Links and Bratwurst Links available.   This will be the last chance to get them, before next May–that’s 6 months away!   Be sure to grab what you need to get you through the winter tomorrow because we will be keeping whatever doesn’t sell for our own use.   Last, but not least, we have leaf fat and fatback for sale.   These cuts may not have the glamor or allure of tenderloins or bacon, but they make wonderful homemade lard.   Rendering your own is easy to do and the creamy lard is a great all natural way to take your baked goods to the next level and replace nasty hydrogenated oils in your everyday cooking.   Try making your own popcorn with some, it’s phenomenal and you don’t even need to add butter to it!

From the field, we will have our usual selection of winter squash and a few pie pumpkins.   Winter storage radishes and leeks will be available again as well.  Both were surprisingly popular last week, so be sure to get to market early.   The leeks were gone by 9:30 last week!   We may have some of our heirloom lettuce mix again too, depending on how it handled the frost earlier this week…

Scholl Farms of Montague

Stu Scholl will have free-range chicken, frozen whole, butternut squash & potatoes at market tomorrow. Chickens were raised on pasture their entire lives this summer! No GMOs! Kabocha & Butternut Squash.  Eggs. Fingerling potatoes.

iCompost of Whitehall Middle School

A group of 7th grade students and their teacher-advisor from Whitehall Middle School have started a composting initiative at their school in an effort to decrease their garbage sent to the landfill, as well improve air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The team, called “iCompost@WMS” has placed compost bins outside the school to which they add fruit and vegetable scraps collected from the school kitchen, cafeteria and teachers’ lounge each day. In addition, they compost coffee grounds from the teachers’ coffee room, and leaves from around their school. The group is active on social media and hopes to teach the younger generation that it’s #hiptocompost! They are excited about sharing their message with the Sweetwater Market shoppers, and will also be selling compost bins on behalf of the Muskegon Conservation District. Follow them on social media to learn more about their project as they compete in the Lexus Eco Challenge!

iCompost of Whitehall Middle School

Kasza Sugar Bush of Shelby

CHRISTMAS IS COMING!!! Come get the perfect, all-natural gift from our large selection of super-sweet Maple Products for that special someone.

The Kasza family began making Pure Maple Syrup from the two trees in our front yard about 15 years ago. Every year since then we have grown in production and quality, today bringing you pure maple products made from cutting-edge technology (and the help of 3,500 trees!). Our maple syrup is continually graded for color, taste, and quality during production. Our processing facility is kept clean and sanitary as well as inspected and licensed by the State of Michigan.

Along with our bottled syrup, we have also expanded our line of maple products this summer to include the following:

Maple Cream – this is maple syrup condensed, cooled, and stirred into a beautiful buttery-like spread excellent on bagels, toast, doughnuts, winter squash, or a glaze on meat (esp. fish, and venison). The best thing about this is that it is totally natural only pure maple syrup.

Maple Candy – an excellent treat for someone’s sweet tooth. Simply pure maple syrup cooked down to only sugar and minerals remaining with enough moisture to hold the sugar in beautiful little maple leaf shaped candies.

Maple Granulated Sugar – is much like Maple Candy but without moisture. This can be used in place of white sugar as a natural sweetener along with the maple taste (esp. on oatmeal)

Maple Sugar-Coated Almonds and Pecans – a healthy sweet and crunchy treat.  These make great gifts if they don’t get eaten before that!!!

Please stop by and check out all these 100% natural products for yourself. We would be very happy to answer any questions or visit our web www.kaszasugarbush.com Looking forward to seeing you Saturday!

We will be at market with certified organic beans, needle felting kits, wool roving, wool socks, and Grassfields Farm’s awesome cheese! The exciting news we have this week is that we’ve harvested new types of beans. We’ll have fresh Marrow, Black Turtle, Pinto, Hidatsa Red and Zebra beans along for sale this Saturday.

We have a few openings for raw milk deliveries through Grassfields Farm’s cow share program. Feel free to ask me how you can get fresh milk delivered to Sweetwater each week.

Kasza Sugar Bush of Shelby

Come sample our latest batch!

Other items from our farm:

We will also have eggs from our free-range, GMO feed- free flock as well as our made on the farm maple syrup along. http://www.meadowviewgoatdairy.com/home
