Shady Side Farm of Holland
I will not be at market next Saturday, April 2. But this Saturday I will be at market with our 16 varieties of certified organic dry beans. Have you tried our Hidatsa Red beans? These beans were grown by the Hidatsa native peoples in the Missouri River Valley of North Dakota. Similar to a kidney bean, they make a great side dish to any grilled meat, and are also good in dips, salads, chilis, soups, or served with grains. Stop by the table and ask for the Red Beans and Rice recipe card that calls for Hidatsa Red beans.

I will also be offering aged cheese from Grassfields Farms in Coopersville. Grassfields Farm is an organic dairy farm, and their cheese is made from their organic unpasturized milk.

Please let me know if you need wool items, or any bulk (over 2#) amounts of the beans by emailing me before 5 pm on Friday at info@shadysidefarm.com.

Pine Row Farm of Rothbury
We spotted a Sand Hill Crane this morning (I first heard them the 28th of Feb.), heard spring peepers yesterday evening, collected 4 duck eggs yesterday, photographed the 1st crocus Tues., had a polite little worker bee ride on my shoulder for awhile on Mon. (I did all the talking, tho), and the killdeer announced their arrival Monday morning.

We have chicken eggs aplenty for Saturday, as well as a few duck eggs.  We are sold out of soup bones, oxtail, roasts, and kabob meat.  For a meaty soup with bone broth, we have shank with bone.  Short ribs also remain in stock, along with burger, burger patties, stew meat, brisket, a wide selection of steaks with and without bone, liver, and tongue.

We have several sizes of raw honey available.  Aaron and Isaac leave at 5a Fri. to take in both days of the MI Beekeepers Conference in East Lansing.  Aaron is 14 and it’s his third year attending; Isaac is 12 and it’s his second time.  (I’m bracing for the whirlwind of excited information I’ll hear when they get home Sat. night!)  We will be working hives the next time weather cooperates.  Initial assessment is encouraging for colony survival this winter.

Looking forward to seeing everyone Saturday morning,
Sarah
