Heirloom Tomato Tasting Time!
Stop by the GREEN INFO TENT this Saturday and taste the subtle delicious differences in different Heirloom Tomatoes!

Attending this week’s market:

New Vendor!
Blackbird Farms of Coopersville
We welcome Greg Dunn of Blackbird Farms! Greg honed his farming skills at Trillium Haven, serving there as farm manager for five years. He then purchased a conventional farm in Coopersville and for the past three years has been transforming it. In his words: “To say it straight, Blackbird Farms grows food for people. Good, honest food, grown using only natural and sustainable practices. More specifically, we grow over a hundred varieties of vegetables on our sixteen-acre farm just north of Coopersville, Michigan. We are surely fresh and local, but, deeper than these buzzwords, the heart of what we do is health. We trust that our calling is to care for green, growing things in a manner that generates health in the soil, in the environment, in human bodies, and in communities ecological, social, and cultural. Finally, we strive to do this work with a sense of hospitality, delight, and gratitude. So, in other words: Welcome. Enjoy. Thank you!”
This week Blackbird Farm will plan to bring heirloom tomatoes, multi-color cherry tomatoes, green beans, mini-cabbages, carrots, beets, potatoes, onions, and garlic, as well as all manner of cut flowers.

Bonao Cacao of Muskegon
Welcome Michael and Nicole Muenstermann! They will join us Saturday  to introduce an amazing super-food, bursting with antioxidants…Raw organic cacao! “Our passion for chocolate led us to discover a small family farm in a city named Bonao in the Dominican Republic. This Bonao cacao is raw, organic and carefully hand picked to insure premium quality. The farm uses earth friendly practices and even holds “The cacao experience” where people can come see the farm, learn and have fun participating in the farming! Cocoa comes from the cacao tree and then is roasted and processed to make the powder and chocolates everyone loves. However, during this process many of  the nutrients and antioxidants are lost. Cacao is the same as cocoa but in a raw form, allowing the beans to stay in it’s natural state to give you the best benefits possible. Come check us out this Saturday for a sample of the bean itself and to learn more! We have beans, powder, nibs, butter and tasty healthy chocolates! We look forward to seeing everybody Saturday!”

Taste of Central America!!! This week we will be offering samples of 5 different Central American coffees, including 4 from Guatemala. Taste for yourself what a difference there can be among coffees from the same geographic location.
Cool down with iced tea! We will be brewing up a lightly sweetened iced tea again this week. Perfect for these summer days!
Chocolate and Espresso!!! We are excited to announce our newest addition! We have partnered with Confections With Convictions in Kalamazoo to bring a variety of delicious chocolate barks. All of their chocolates are fair trade and organic, and many of their ingredients are sourced locally. We will be bringing a variety of their dark and milk chocolate barks including a dark chocolate espresso bark made with our own beans! We are also offering faux Espresso shots as well as our brewed coffee. Stop by our table to see a demonstration of the unique Aeropress and taste the powerful results.
Guatemalan coffee Week!  This week we are doing something a little different. We are featuring not one, but four amazing coffees! Our standard Guatemala FTO will be joined by three others, each a little different. Check out our Facebook page to learn more about our Coffee of the Week program.
Also in the roaster this week:
Don Oscar Omar Honduras, Decaffeinated Sumatra FTO
If there is a specific coffee you want, which is not listed here, please email us and we will make a special roast if possible.
Our Fair Trade Organic Tea selection: Gunpowder Green, Jasmine Green, English Breakfast, Earl Grey, and Fancy Darjeeling. More coming soon!
We will pick a few chocolates to bring, so if there is something specific you want please pre-order from our list here.
Dark Chocolate covered Espresso Beans! We plan to have a limited quantity available this week!
Dark Chocolate bark: Espresso Bean; Espresso Bean w/MI cherries; Salted almonds, MI cherries, toasted cacao nibs; Pecans, candied orange peel, dried cranberries; Peanuts, sea salt, chocolate covered cacao nibs; MI cherries and blueberries; 68% Dark chocolate w/ Kosher salt

As always, we sell our coffee by the ounce so you can get the perfect amount to use while it is the freshest. We also have gift certificates; the perfect gift for a coffee lover!
Come taste the fresh difference! Coffee is seasonal, so expect some variety. We try not to roast too much extra in order to keep the coffee fresh every week.
Email us to order in advance, and we will have it bagged up and ready for you. Advance orders will ensure that we don’t run out of your favorite coffee before you get there, and speed up your shopping if you are in a hurry!

Laughing Tree Bakery of Hart
Greetings from Laughing Tree Brick Oven Bakery—
Have you tried our newest, and largest loaf—the BIG COUNTRY?
This beautiful boule weighs in at right around 2 pounds…  Larger than any of our other loaves it’s the perfect pick if you’ve got a crowd to feed.  Made with an organic germ-restored wheat flour (a flour that’s got the germ and the endosperm–but no bran), and an organic Michigan-grown rye flour, this bread is sumptuously supple. You just won’t believe how moist and soft the crumb (the interior) stays for days and days.
Available at market this weekend: $7.50 for each whopping loaf.  (We sell half loaves too of course…)

SPECIALTY BREAD BAKE
Big Country:  Made with germ-restored wheat flour and Michigan-grown rye, this 2 pound loaf is sumptuously supple and earthy.  Perfect pick for a crowd.  $7.50

Shady Side Farm of Holland
This week we will be at market with our certified organic beans, all harvested last fall, in the following varieties:

Black Turtle – Common black bean with a thick skin and a meaty texture. We’ve got a lot of these beans left, so they are discounted $1 a pound while supplies last.
Black Valentine – Taste like kidney beans, great for salads, soups and dips.
Hutterite Soup – Comfort food, cook fast, creamy soup, baby food.
Jacob’s Cattle – Big and meaty, taste & texture of new potatoes, traditional baked beans, chili. We’ve got a lot of these beans left, so they are discounted $2 a pound while supplies last.
Marrow – (Almost gone) Plump, soft white beans that soak up the flavors of whatever you cook them with.
October – (Almost gone) Creamy, velvety smooth texture, nutty, sweet flavor, thin skin, soups or chili.
Painted Lady – Slightly sweet bean, smooth, creamy texture, good in everything.
Pinto – (Almost gone) Earthy flavor, great in Mexican cooking, falls apart under long cooking.
Zebra – (Almost gone) Smooth, creamy texture, full-bodied flavor, good all-purpose bean.
Please let us know ahead of time if you’d like to order 5# bags of any one variety, so that we can pre-bag those and bring them along.
In addition, we offer Grassfield Farms organic raw aged cheeses in the following flavors:
Aged Cheddar – You asked, and we listened! A sharp cheddar, aged a year. Award-winning!
Country Dill – A house favorite, the dill herb in Gouda well represents the fresh grass that dominates the cows’ diet.
Crofters – This delicious cheese is aged 1 year with a medium sharp taste. The texture is dry and crumbly. Very similar to Parmesan.
Edam – A variety of Gouda made with skim milk: Elastic, yet firm, this flawless low fat cheese is our best melter, improving any dish.
Garlic & Onion – The most aromatic of herbs. Don’t be the only one in the room to eat this spiced Gouda or you soon will be.
Gouda – A traditional handmade cheese in keeping with West Michigan’s (and our family’s) Dutch culture.
Lamont Cheddar – A rare, natural rind English cheese, named for the Grand River’s first settlement near our farm.
Leyden – Originally from the Rhine Valley, now the Grand River Valley; cumin perfectly compliments this aged Dutch cheese.
Cheese Sticks – Want to try some cheese, but don’t need a whole 8 ounces? We’ll have a few cheese sticks along each week, in a variety of cheese types, for $2 each.

I’ll also bring along some hand-dyed yarn for fall/winter knitting projects. This wool or wool/nylon blend yarn is from our sheep, hand-dyed by us. Stop by and see what we’ve got!
