Blackbird Farms of Coopersville
This week at market, we are offering again our pre-selected, pre-packed bags of fresh vegetables. These bags are something akin to our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) shares. We assemble bags of our highest quality veggies based on whatever is fresh and in season for that week. In the bag, we aim to have some combination and quantity of at least six different vegetables with a combined value around $20. We also include a brief note from Farmer Greg and a farm-tested recipe. Each bag costs $15.
This week’s bag will likely contain some combination of the following: head lettuce, arugula, Brussels sprouts, Napa cabbage, leeks, pie pumpkin, garlic, and microgreens. Again, each bag will cost $15. (Please note that due to the variability of the weather this time of year, the contents of the bag might be a little more in flux than in other seasons. I will try to hew as close to this list as I can, but substitutions may occur.)
This week we also will have a variety of vegetables available for pre-order:
kale (red curly, green curly, and lacinato): 1 pound for $4
collard greens: 1 pound for $4
arugula: 1/4 pound bag for $3
baby kale: 1/4 pound bag for $3
full-size cabbages (conical, savoyed, and Napa): $4 each
Brussels sprouts: $4 per stalk
leeks: 1 pound for $3
Anna Barbara’s Ohio Red garlic: $15 per pound (1/2 pound minimum order) ***Very limited quantities.*** This garlic is suitable for use as seed garlic.
Music garlic: Ideally, we will have more available next week.
And new this week:
–FRESH GINGER: $20 per pound (1/4 pound minimum). Please note that ginger rhizomes are irregularly sized and so may not weigh out to exactly what you ordered. We will try to get as close as we can.
To order, please e-mail us at hello.blackbirdfarms@gmail.com by noon on Friday. We will then send you an invoice via Square. Payment can also be made via cash or check (payable to Blackbird Farms).
Thanks so much! We are looking forward to seeing friends old and new this Saturday!

Sweetwater Curated Local Foods
There is an order going in for the list below on Wednesday by noon. Please email back at sweetwaterlocalfoods@gmail.com if there is something you want so I can be sure to include it in the order. Thanks!
New! Ludwig Farmstead Creamery of Fifthian, IL
Longtime customers will remember the great cheese we used to carry from Grassfields of Coopersville. Since they stopped production a few years ago we have not been able to locate a good local replacement. My salesperson at Cherry Capital sent me samples from Ludwig Farmstead Creamery and I have to tell you I’m making an exception to our Michigan local for this one! The farm is 300 miles away, in Fifthian, IL (pop 485). They milk around 65 cows from their herd of Holsteins, and the farm is Certified Humane for their grassfed operation. This means the cows diet is exclusively grass & forage with no grains or grain by-products allowed. Learn more about how the cows are treated here: https://www.ludwigfarmsteadcreamery.com/our-cows  and the strict standards for Certified Humane, including feed requirements here: https://certifiedhumane.org/wp-content/uploads/HFAC-Dairy-Cattle-Standards_20-2.pdf
For this week choose from :
Kickapoo named after the State Park which is near the creamery, and the Native American Kickapoo tribe that was prominent in this area.  Kickapoo cheese is a Ludwig original recipe.  Kickapoo is a semi-hard, raw milk cheese reminiscent of an aged Parmesan, with  fresh, buttery flavors and a sharper finish.  It has a distinctive green rind.
Vermilion River Blue The scenic Vermilion River flows close to Ludwig Farmstead Creamery and was the inspiration for naming this great cheese. Vermilion River Blue is a triple cream cheese with a soft creamy texture punctuated with gentle notes of blue.
Sangamon Double Cream Named after a beautiful Illinois river, Sangamon is a smooth & firm, but still melt-in-your-mouth cheese. Made with day-fresh milk and added cream, Sangamon melts well as a recipe ingredient.
Jakes Havarti A raw milk, semi-soft cheese that melts well, favorite of the founder Jacob Ludwig.
Jakes Havarti Herb Dill, garlic, and chervil give this semi soft creamy cheese a fresh herb taste.
All cheese comes in 5 oz wedges for $6.00 each.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PRE-ORDER & DRIVE THROUGH
1. Look over the list. Each vendor has a unique deadline for when they need to receive your pre-order depending on their product. Send your pre-order to each vendor you want to order from, within their required deadlines.
2. Vendors will respond back by no later than Friday before market day with an order confirmation and an invoice that in most cases will allow you to pre-pay for your order. If a vendor is not set up to take payment online they will accept checks (preferred) or cash in a sealed envelope on market day pickup.
3. Market Day. Important! Please see the attached map with arrows indicating which way you should plan to approach the market. We have 3 sections opened now and are refining the traffic pattern plan every week!
Please plan to line up and stay in your vehicleWe will also have signs to help point you in the right direction.
4. Please note! Using a sheet of paper at least 8.5 x 11, please list all of the vendors you have orders with in black marker (or something as visible), large enough for vendors to see it clearly.  Please put your first & last name at the top of the list. Tape or hold up the list to the side window or front windshield where it will be most visible.
5. Have your trunk, or designated area of your car ready to receive your goods. A cooler is suggested for refrigerated & frozen items.
6. As you drive through, each vendor will bring your order to your vehicle and place it in the trunk or other designated space, and collect payment if you have not paid in advance. Again, please have checks (preferred) or cash in a sealed envelope with your name and the name of the vendor on the outside of it.
